Why Drivers Choose These Vehicle Side Window Shades
A generic sun shade sags, gaps at the edges, and lets light straight through anyway. Snap Shades don’t, because every side window shade is built from your car’s actual measurements, not a one-size-fits-most guess.
Snap Shades precision means:
- No sagging or gaps at the window edge
- Full coverage across the whole window, not just the middle
- A finish that looks like it belongs in the car, not stuck over it
It also means real day-to-day payoff: less glare and heat hitting you and your passengers on the school run or the daily commute, and less fading on your seats and door trims over the years.
TOP-QUALITY SHADES
FOR your CARS
Our custom car window shades will effectively protect you and your passengers from the sun.
Real Reviews, Real Numbers
4.9 stars isn’t a number we made up; it’s every customer who’s rated us across Australia and the world.
M Holmes
There’s a lot to say here, but the first few things is that they are a perfect fit and you cannot see in the car except if you put your nose directly on the window. Also, shipping was very prompt, even coming from Australia.I have a 2014 Lexus ES 350 I bought from a junkyard. That’s a different story, but the price for the 2 back window shades was about $100 cheaper than getting the windows tinted, and the timing was such that I bought these first. I did end up tinting the windows a few months after getting the shades because they also do the back glass and the front windows. The shades arrive in a neat little zipper bag which you can use to store the shades in the winter if you feel you need to. You cannot see into the car unless up very close, but you also will have difficulty seeing out, especially if it’s dark outside. Anyway, they fit like a glove and no magnets were needed. You can also roll the windows down partway while driving and they will not go flying out or pop out of place. The combination of the tint and the shades helps keep my car much cooler in the southern heat and they aid in providing additional privacy, ventilation, and protection from bugs, especially when the car is off but you’re still sitting in the car. That’s why I wish they had shades for the front windows as well! But they would be the equivalent of illegal tint for front windows in many states as well as obscuring visibility, so not safe.So yes, they are pricey, but they are a perfect fit and good quality. The generic stuff either falls apart or doesn’t stay put, which is its own headache and can be avoided by paying extra for the right product.

A perfect fit for your car
Which Side Window Shade Do You Need?
Not every window in your car needs the same shade, and working out the best car side window shade for yours starts with where the sun actually hits.
Here’s how the range breaks down.
Rear Door Side Window Shades
The back seat cops the worst of it on a long drive, especially for kids and pets who can’t just look away from the glare.
A rear side window shade:
- Keeps the back seat noticeably cooler
- Cuts UV exposure for younger passengers
- Stops door trims and upholstery fading over time
Rear side door window shades are our most popular shade type for exactly that reason: families and anyone doing regular road trips with passengers in the back. A car rear side window shade like this is the one we sell the most.
Front Side Window Shades
Sitting in direct sun through the driver or front passenger door gets old fast, especially on long commutes. A front side window shade takes the edge off without blocking your view of the mirrors or the road.
Good for:
- Cutting glare on the drive to work
- Making a hot commute more bearable
- Keeping UV off the front-seat passenger
A driver’s side shade specifically won’t get in the way of the window or your sightlines; it’s built to sit clear of both.
Port Window Shades
Port side window shades cover the smaller, often triangular windows near the back of the car, easy to forget about until low afternoon sun starts hitting the kids in the back seat directly.
Port side window shades help to:
- Shield children in the back seats from direct sunlight
- Reduce glare and heat throughout the rear of the vehicle
- Extend side window coverage when paired with rear side window shades
Pair a port shade with a rear door shade, and you’ve got the whole back seat covered, not just most of it, which matters on a long summer drive.
The Snap Shades Mesh, Explained
Our side window mesh is tested to block 84.6% of UV rays, verified through Testing by ARPANSA, not a marketing round-up number.
We use a multi-directional cross-mesh material, woven to stop UV penetration from multiple angles rather than just filtering straight-on light.
Every car side window sun shade we sell uses this same tested mesh, not a cheaper version for some models.
What that gets you in practice:
- Serious UV blocking without turning your windows into a blackout
- A weave that holds its shape and doesn’t sag or stretch with heat
- Enough breathability that visibility out the window stays clear
Built to Last, Not Just Look Good
The material’s built tough enough that it won’t break down or fail with regular use, which is also why it barely needs looking after.

Choosing the Right Shade
Not every side window shade on the market is actually built the same way underneath, and it shows once you’ve had one for six months.
Material Matters More Than the Price Tag
A shade that darkens your window heavily is usually compensating for weaker UV-blocking mesh. Look for one that filters UV without needing to go dark to do it.
Fit Is the Real Test
A shade that doesn’t follow your window’s exact shape leaves gaps, and gaps mean it’s not really doing its job. This is the single biggest difference between a custom-fit shade and a universal one.
We get there with 3D laser scanning on your exact vehicle, not a tape measure. Fitment photos are on every product listing, and our support team’s there if you’re not sure about your model before you order.
How It Comes On and Off
If a shade needs tools, brackets, or a fight to get it in or out, that’s a sign it wasn’t designed for your specific window in the first place.
Universal Shades Are a Compromise
They fit “okay” everywhere, which usually means they don’t fit particularly well anywhere. A shade cut to your exact vehicle’s window dimensions performs differently, and it’s not subtle once you’ve tried both.

Fitting Your Snap Shades
No tools, no drilling, and no wrestling with brackets. Every shade, whether it’s one of our side window sun shades for cars or a single one, uses our smart magnet system; position it roughly right, and it snaps into place on its own.
What that looks like in practice:
- Line the shade up near the window edge
- The smart magnets pull it into the correct position and hold it there
- Pull it back off just as easily when you don’t need it
The exact mounting setup varies a little depending on whether it’s a front side, rear door, or port shade, so check the installation instructions page for the specific video and steps for your shade.
What You're Actually Getting
Less Heat, Less Glare
Filtering direct sun before it hits the cabin means a noticeably cooler car and less squinting on a bright drive, parked or moving.
Real UV Protection
84.6% of UV rays blocked, tested, not estimated, which matters for anyone in the car and for keeping your leather, fabric, and trim from fading early.
Easy to Live With Day to Day
Light, no tools to install or remove, and it folds flat for storage when you’re not using it. Nothing about it is a hassle.
Looking After Your Side Window Shades
The material’s built to hold up on its own; it won’t break down or need constant attention. An occasional wipe with a damp cloth to clear off dust and debris is genuinely all it needs.
If a shade’s ended up creased or you’re not sure how to fold it back down properly, our folding and straightening video walks through it step by step.
Got Questions? Side Window Shade FAQs
Does a car side window shade actually cool the car down?
Yes, noticeably. The best car sun shades for side windows filter sunlight before it reaches you, cutting glare and heat while you're driving or stopped in traffic, not just when the car's sitting parked.
How hard is it to fit one myself?
Not hard at all. Snap Shades use a smart magnet system; position it roughly right against the window, and it pulls itself into place. No drilling, no brackets, no tools.
Setup varies slightly by shade type; the installation instructions page has the exact steps and video for yours.
What actually blocks the UV, and how well?
Our sun shades for side windows use a multi-directional cross-mesh material, tested to block 84.6% of UV rays. It's woven to cut UV from more than one angle, not just head-on, while staying clear enough that visibility isn't an issue.
Do you make shades for the other windows too?
Yes. Front windscreen shades and rear window shades are both custom-fit the same way, so whether you need sun shades for car side windows or something for the rest of the vehicle, it's all covered.
What's the actual difference between a side window shade and a rear windscreen shade?
Side window shades fit the door windows and rear side glass, where most day-to-day glare and heat come in. A rear windscreen shade covers the back window itself, which matters more for parked-car heat and rear visibility. Most families running kids or pets in the back end up with both.
Will it fit my SUV or a bigger vehicle?
Yes, the whole range is custom-fit per vehicle, so a bigger SUV gets the same precision fit as any sedan, including affordable side window shades for SUVs sized for the bigger glass.
Can I actually drive with it fitted?
It depends on your state or territory's road rules. Our driver-side shades are made to stay in place while driving and use a breathable mesh, so you keep partial visibility while still cutting glare, heat, and UV.
That said, road rules around visibility vary across Australian states and territories, so it's on the driver to make sure mirrors, traffic, and surroundings stay clearly visible and compliant with local rules.
