3M™ VHB™ 5952F is a black, double sided acrylic foam tape. Its very conformable 1.1 mm foam core makes full contact even when surfaces are slightly mismatched, then spreads the load along the whole joint instead of a few fixing points. The result is a strong, permanent, sealed bond that is virtually invisible.

HOW TO APPLY

Four steps to a permanent bond.

1. Clean

Wipe both surfaces with a 50:50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water and let dry. Degrease oily parts first.

2. Apply

Apply to dry surfaces, ideally between 21°C and 38°C. Never below 10°C.

3. Press firmly

Use a roller or firm hand pressure for full contact. Rigid parts need more.

4. Let it cure

About 50% strength after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and full strength after 72 hours.

For static loads, 3M recommends about 57 cm² of tape for every 1 kg being held. That works out to roughly 29 cm of tape per kg with the 20 mm roll, or 19 cm per kg with the 30 mm roll.

Metal (aluminium, steel and stainless), glass, painted and powder coated finishes and many plastics. Porous surfaces such as raw wood, particleboard or concrete need to be sealed first, and glass, copper and some plastics or rubber may need extra preparation.

Apply between 21°C and 38°C for the best result, and never below 10°C. Once bonded, it handles 93°C long term and 149°C for short periods.

It grabs on contact, reaches about 50% strength after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and full strength after 72 hours at room temperature.
